Uninstall AVG Toolbar, homepage and Secure Search from your browser

The AVG Toolbar, AVG Secure Search and AVG homepage can be removed in any of the following ways.

AVG menu in Google Chrome

Use the Uninstall link in the AVG Do Not Track menu:

AVG Toolbar menu in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

Use the Uninstall the AVG Toolbar option in the AVG Toolbar menu:

AVG Browser Configuration Tool

In case you cannot remove the AVG homepage, AVG Secure Search and AVG Toolbar as described above, please use the AVG Browser Configuration tool:

  1. Download the AVG Browser Configuration Tool.
  2. Run the downloaded file AVG_Browser_configuration_tool.exe.
  3. Click Accept to confirm the license agreement.
  4. Click Continue to start the removal process.
    Note: This will close all your browser windows.
  5. You may receive a prompt from Internet Explorer or other browsers about your preferred search engine.
  6. Click Exit to close the tool.​

Windows Control Panel

You can also use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall AVG homepage, AVG Secure Search and AVG Toolbar:

Note: During the uninstallation, you may receive a User Account Control pop-up asking you to type an administrator password. In this case please fill in the password to continue.

Windows Vista or 7

  1. Open the Start menu, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a program or Programs and Features.
  3. In the list of applications double-click AVG Security Toolbar or AVG SafeGuard Toolbar.  The uninstallation will be launched.
  4. You may receive the message:
    The following applications must be closed before continuing the uninstall.
    If you receive the message, close all your browser windows and then click Retry.
  5. Tick the option Revert your browser's default search provider..., and then click Remove.

Windows XP

  1. Open the Start menu, and then click Control Panel (or Settings, and then Control Panel).
  2. Click Add or remove programs.
  3. In the list of applications double-click AVG Security Toolbar or AVG SafeGuard Toolbar.  The uninstallation will be launched.
  4. You may receive the message:
    The following applications must be closed before continuing the uninstall.
    If you receive the message, close all your browser windows and then click Retry.
  5. Tick the option Revert your browser's default search provider..., and then click Remove.

Windows 8

  1. Right-click in the lower-left corner of your screen, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a program or Programs and Features.
  3. In the list of applications double-click AVG Security Toolbar or AVG SafeGuard Toolbar.  The uninstallation will be launched.
  4. You may receive the message:
    The following applications must be closed before continuing the uninstall.
    If you receive the message, close all your browser windows and then click Retry.
  5. Tick the option Revert your browser's default search provider..., and then click Remove
